Located within walking distance of Piedmont Park and Grady High School, Woody’s has been serving up some extraordinary cheese-steaks for the past 30 years. While they are known for their cheese-steaks, they also have a wide array of menu items that are equally delicious. From the Phat Dog to the Turkey Cheese-steak, even that person you don’t really like to eat with because they are too picky can find something to enjoy at Woody’s.
Ever since they changed management a few years ago, I was hesitant to try the cheese-steaks, and at first they were definitely different. With my most recent visit, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Woody’s still delivers on exceptional Cheese-steaks. They have also made a couple of customer friendly changes at Woody’s. They now accept credit cards, well they have for a while, but its been a couple years since I was last there. More recently, I noticed added beer taps. Now they serve two beers on tap, which makes sitting outside that much more enjoyable.
We gave Woody’s 3.5 starts because they provide great food, and a great atmosphere. Yes, the restaurant can feel a little small, and maybe the ordering system could be more efficient, but that’s what creates the type of culture and atmosphere we enjoy. You can find a great place to sit outside, and enjoy the nice weather, or you can skip the whole mess and order ahead for take out. Either way you go, you can’t lose. Just don’t order your Cheese-steak “all the way” because that doesn’t exist anymore.
