Background La Tavola:
been on my list for a couple months now. Since I had never been to La Tavola before, I read the reviews on Urbanspoon.
One of them specifically warned to get a reservation or you will wait for a while. Well I figured since it was 7:00pm on a Wednesday I would be perfectly fine. That was a mistake and we ended up paying for it.
So if you are planning on going to La Tavola make sure you do have a reservation. It’s not all bad though. The bar is nice and they serve up some mean Martinis if you have to wait.
I will admit that I was a little intimidated by the menu. I do not eat Italian too often, and I really have no idea how to navigate the menu. So when in doubt just ask the server what’s good. Fortunately the service is great, and everything the server recommended was delicious.
We started off the night with Mozzarella Burrata, which was a complete gamble for me. The waiter recommended it because they flew the cheese maker from Florence to Atlanta. He described how the cheese would lose some of its quality going through customs so they just up and moved the cheese maker. There you go. The dish was absolutely delicious, and the spiciness from the Calabrian chili oil combined with the freshness of the cheese and cucumbers was amazing. I would absolutely reccomend that dish to anyone.
For my entree, I ended up with the Mushroom Ragu Tagliolini since the server recommended it, and I really liked it. The truffle oil can be a little overwhelming for some people, but I really enjoy truffle oil. I could probably drink that stuff straight up.
We also enjoyed the Tagliatelle Bolognese, which I think is some of the best I have ever enjoyed. The meat had an incredible flavor that complimented the sauce and the pasta really well.
On Monday’s La Tavola has $10 pasta night, which is a great deal. Also, if you order an appetizer portion of pasta it is $5 cheaper on any night. The portions are big so the appetizer portion is a good deal as well.
